Member Spotlight: Vice President Myesha McClendon

Myesha B. McClendon is best known to most of us as our wonderful Vice President and the marvelous organizer of our historic chartering ceremony. But there is so much more to learn about this magnificent mother! Let’s get to know a little more about our Magnificent Mile Chapter VP.

1. What inspires you?
I am inspired by people who don’t give up or take the easy way out of something and are not afraid of a challenge. I am also inspired by people who are not afraid to be themselves. I have learned to be unapologetic about who I am in my career and life. It’s okay to be intelligent, over-the-top, and simply you!

2. What are two words that best describe you?
Driven and Compassionate.

3. What is your favorite part about being the Vice President for the Magnificent Mile Chapter?
My favorite part of being Vice President for the Magnificent Mile Chapter is the opportunity it gives me to get to know each and every mom in a special way. Whether it is working with them as a committee chair or committee placement. I learn a lot during this time because I end up speaking with moms to discuss their likes and dislikes and what they feel they are best at to determine committee placement. I also do a lot of work with our data so I know moms who have only children and the moms who have all boys so it’s cool to see and talk with them about how their time as a parent is different than mine just based on our family differences. I call some moms for a quick 2-minute reminder like don’t forget to do the survey and we end up talking for over an hour.

4. What grade group is your child or children in? Name and age?
My daughter Micaiah is in grade group 5. She became a teenager in 2020, she is 13 years old. So you can only imagine what my 2020 has been like.

5. Where were you born?
I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois (South Shore).

6. What is your favorite type of food? What is your favorite restaurant?
My favorite type of food is seafood. It doesn’t quite align with my favorite restaurant though, it is Houston’s Restaurant.

7. Where is your favorite place to travel?
My favorite place that I have traveled to is Belize. But my favorite place to travel to is anywhere that I can have a big family vacation.

8. What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to be active during my free time and doing new things such as encounters with the Beluga Whales at the museum, rock climbing, Flying Trapeze, etc. I am not really a sit still type of person, I like action and activities.

9. What inspirational quote or advice would you like to share with our mothers?
It’s not really inspirational but it is the motto that I go by which is “YOLO”. You only live once, life is short, unexpected and full of surprises. You do not know what will happen tomorrow so live life to its fullest extent.
